Red Velvet Heardle

Red Velvet debuted on August 1, 2014 under SM Entertainment with the digital single "Happiness", as a four-member group — Irene, Seulgi, Wendy and Joy. They were SM's first new girl group in five years, since f(x). Yeri joined in March 2015, completing the five-member line-up that has stayed together since. Every era of it is in the Red Velvet Heardle pool.

The name spells out the whole concept. The "Red" side is bright, bold and playful pop; the "Velvet" side is smoother and more mature, leaning on R&B and soul. Red Velvet deliberately swing between the two, which is why a candy-coloured summer single and a moody, downtempo track can come from the same group in the same year — the split is the point, not an accident. It is also what makes Red Velvet Heardle such a distinctive quiz.

That range produced a run of signature hits: "Ice Cream Cake" (2015), the bouncy "Russian Roulette" (2016), the chart-dominating "Red Flavor" (2017), and "Psycho" (2019), which swept Korea's real-time charts on release and is often named among their best. On the Velvet side, "Bad Boy" (2018) — R&B-laced and later given an English version — pushed the group further into international attention, and Billboard placed it among the best songs of that year. All of those singles are Red Velvet Heardle staples.

The two sides are also split across the release formats. The Korean studio albums — "The Red" (2015), "Perfect Velvet" (2017) and "Chill Kill" (2023) — are named for the concept they lean into, with a long run of EPs filling the space between them. All of their Korean albums have topped Korea's Circle Album Chart. They record for Japan too, where the EPs "#Cookie Jar" (2018) and "Sappy" (2019) preceded the studio album "Bloom" (2022). The Japanese releases feed Red Velvet Heardle too.

Red Velvet have branched out in two directions since. The sub-unit Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi debuted on July 6, 2020, and four members have released solo work: Wendy in April 2021, Joy in May 2021, Seulgi in October 2022 and Irene in November 2024. Those are credited separately from the group, so they sit outside a Red Velvet Heardle round.

One performance stands apart from the rest of the timeline. On April 1, 2018, Red Velvet performed in Pyongyang as part of a South Korean delegation — the first SM Entertainment act to perform in North Korea in fifteen years, and one of the more unusual entries in any K-pop group's history.

Their fandom is called ReVeluv — "ReVe" from Red Velvet plus "luv" — revealed in 2017 on the group's 1,000th day.
